Hello everyone!
Today I am sharing an easy recipe fo teething cookies/biscuits for babies. This recipe is super easy and quick to make. The smell of the cookies took me back to my childhood as it reminded me of the sweet potato papads my grandma used to make.
I have used yellow colored yams / sweet potatoes and rolled oats in this recipe. Orange flesh sweet potatoes will work just as well.
Rolled Oats are easy to use and a rich source of fibre. They aid in digestion too along with being packed with vitamins and minerals.
Sweet potatoes/yams are great for babies and they do taste really yummy. They are nutritious, high in fiber and carbohydrate rich food.
I added a dash of nutmeg since nutmeg is believed to aid with teething pain if any. It also helps in digestion. Please don’t be tempted to add more nutmeg as a little goes a long way.
Simple teething cookies for babies- 6 months+
Notes
- Baking time depends on the thickness of the cookies. Thicker the cookie, more time it takes to bake.
- Please don’t be tempted to add more Nutmeg, a pinch goes a long way.
- Once they were baked, the edges turned out to be a bit rough. Although, it didn’t hurt the baby in anyway and she enjoyed chewing on these cookies the next time I baked these cookies, I softened the edges.
Ingredients
- Rolled Oats – 1 cup
- Sweet potato – 1 medium
- Ghee – 1 teaspoon
- Nutmeg powder – 1/8th teaspoon
- Water- 2 cups
Instructions
- Wash, peel and cut the sweet potato into small cubes.
- Cook them in two cups of water for about 20 minutes or until they are soft and mash-able. (You can also choose to steam them instead)
- Drain the water and blend the sweet potatoes into a puree. You can add very minimal amount of water if required.
- Now take the rolled oats in a blender jar or a food processor and blitz it for a minute or two until its powdered.
- Mix the oats flour, sweet potato puree , ghee and nutmeg until it comes together and forms a ball. Do not knead.
- Pre-heat the oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Roll the mixture flat on a parchment paper and cut it into rectangular cookies using a knife or a pizza cutter.
- Place the cookies on a baking tray and bake them at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about 20-30 minutes or until the sides are golden brown.
- Check to make sure the cookies are done without any soft spots. If they are soft, place them back in the oven for another 5 minutes.
- Cool them and store in an airtight container.
